Default Marlin 25, used, value?

I looked at a Marlin 25 22 mag today. It was used and I would consider it to be in avg condition for it's apparent age, which i estimate to be 10-12 yrs, maybe more. The blue is in ok shape and the wood stock shows nicks and dings, but overall, i think the condition is decent/avg. It comes with weaver mounts and a 3x9x50 simmons scope, also avg. They were asking $300, which really seemed very high to me but in all fairness, I don't know what it is worth. I discussed a lower price and they said make and offer, but the guy hinted that $200 would work. That price seems ok but no great. Your thoughts? Comparably, there was another Marlin 25 with significantly more wear on both the blue and wood stock and without a scope, for $159. However, I would expect it could be purchased for $119.

Your thoughts are appreciated. I should add, is this a good quality dependable and desireable gun?

The Marlin 25s sold for about $80. $300 is ridculous.
