Default Western open ground caliber question

I was thinking of a long range round of 250 yards and out. I have an Encore and wanted a new rifle barrel to go with the muzzleloader barrel. I'm torn between 25/06 and 264 win mag. I handload so I can soup up either. I'm leaning to the 264 because I already load 6.5 swede so there's some common bullets. Please help if you have killed deer with either round.

I'd go with the 264win mag,Like to have one myself in a bolt action.Have seen some used ones but am alittle hesintend that the barrels could be shot out. They are a little hard on barrels.Zeak

Of these two, the .264 WM has more potential as a long-range round, but requires at least a 26" barrel. Otherwise, it is no better than the .25/'06 or a .270/.280.

Keep yore powder dry!!

You may want to try the 6.5/.284 Norma. Long a wildcat popular with the accuracy crowd, brass is now commercially available from Norma. Ballistically, it treads quite close on the heels of the .264 Win Mag, but doesn't seem to be quite as hard on barrels. It is also more accurate.
