T/C Encore 20ga. or 12ga. slug barrel
Hello, i am about to order a rifled slug barrel for my Encore and i am having a hard time deciding between the fluted 28" 12ga. or the 28" 20ga. I know a 28" barrel is a little longer than the standard T/C24" barrel but i dont rifle sights on the barrel (24" comes standard w/sights)as it will be scoped. any one have any insight as to the 28" length if it improves accuracy, or just robs MV? Now back to the age old12ga. vs. 20ga. question from a ballistics stand point MOST 12ga. ammunition is slightly superior to 20 ga. also i am keeping in mind that 12ga. is much more readily available and usually has more of a selection. BUT. has any one looked at hastings ammunition sight? thay are releasing a new 3.5" slug that is superior to amy 12 ga. on the market! its a 350 grain sabot slug pushed at a MV of 2000fps, 3643ft-lbs. only a4" drop @ 150yards still chuggin along @ 1300fps and a retaind energy of about 1570ft.-lbs @ 150 yards...impressive to say the least. eventually hastings will provide a rechambering service for20ga. Encore barrels, but for now they only will rechamber H&R's Any one have any first hand experiance here?

I would stick with 12 gauge. The thing to think about is the cost of those new super slug ammo and where will you be able to get them. Even premium 12 gauge sabot slugs are pretty high-now picture how much they would cost not to mention rechambering 20 gauge to 3.5.

Yea, i was thinking the same thing. I beleive the re-chambering service can be done for under $200. But even so, i would still have about $1500 stuck into a slug gun [&:]. well, thats if you unclude the 209 x .50 ML barrel and the glassas well, but still its enough money. I guess accuracy wise i havent seen much difference from the 12ga. to the 20ga. in the articles ive read. but if someone knows otherwise let me know. thanks

Remember though that you pay a premium for being one of the early adopters of the new technology and that technology may or may not stick. If you want to be the first kid on the block with it and it is worth it to you, then by all means drop the cash for the 20. It sounds to me like it would be like dropping serious cash into your small block to get the same power out of it is as just running a big block would give you.

good analogy, and i guess thereare not too many 20ga. offering in 3.5" but they say 3" and 2.75" shoot equally well thru the 3.5" chambering. I guess im a little hesitent to beleive that a 2.75" would shoot accurately thru a 3.5" chamber. i think i will stick with the 12ga. anyone have any info on the 28" barrel length?
