Default Winchester 94 30-30

I am wanting to buy a lever action 30-30, I know about the Marlin vs Winchester debate, but I saw a Win 94 in a pawn shop today, wood looked very good, barrel finish is good, receiver finish wore off and light brown color, bore looked ok but doesn't look like it was recently cleaned. They have a $189 price on it. I did not note the serial number so I don't know the age. I am not wanting this for a collecters value, but I intend to hunt whitetail,it will be purely a hunting rifle. Based on my description, how is the price? If it is too high, what do you think I can offer them without insulting them?

If the condition is as you described, the price is pretty good. The finish worn off the receiver would suggest that it was carried a lot. But, if the action is still tight and the bore is good, go for it. And, if you open up the action and the cartridge follower (the little lever that pops uplifting the next cartridge) is machined, not stamped, definately go for it.

If it where me I would jump on it at that price. Around here that same gun is going for over $300 in the condition that you described.

Just buy it. Even a post-64 is generally going for more than that.

I'd rather have a marlin myself having already gone the win94 route. But the price you mentioned isn't bad. I bought my 94 used for $100 and sold it back to the same guy a year later for the same price because I didn't like it much and he missed it, that was about 8 years ago though.

Whip out 150 in cash and offer em that. If they won't take that, have a pocket full of change and start counting to to 155 or 160 like that's all ya got and you'll take it home well worth the money.

BUY, BUY, BUY!!!!

Winchester 94 30-30 is the 65 GTO of rifles, IMO. There's just something about them. I got an antelope with mine last weekend and that was a heck of a lotmore fun than taking something with a high-powered high-dollar bolt action. And the new Hornaday LeveRevolution bullets are the ONLY thing to use for 30-30's, IMO. Nothing else is even close.

I bought my Win 94 back when they did not have the Cross Bolt Safety..Half cock Hammer and Lever were the safeties.

I have both, Win 94 and Marlin 336C.....I grab the Marlin 99.9% of the time!

I wouldn't hesitate at that price, and I don't like 94s, bring it to the Iowa city area, and you could easily double your money...... Where'd you say that pawn shop was? : )
