Default Remington 700 - Good deal?

I was going to get the Mossberg ATR 100, but decided to wait a few days and check more reviews about it before I made up my mind. Happened to come across a few threads talking about the Remington 700 ADL being found in Walmart on clearance, so I didn't to check a few around here. Only one that I checked had any at all. Managed to get a brand new one in black synthetic and 30-06 for $300! They also gave me one of the $30 rebate forms from Remington. $290 after taxes and rebate, I couldn't be more proud. What do you guys think. Look forward to mounting the Leupold VX scope I picked up last weekend and seeing just how well it performs. I've heard the action alone is worth $300. It also didn't hurt that I only had to wait a few minutes for the background check rather than an hour or in some cases, days.

Congrats on the new rifle. The rem 700 action is considered by many ( NOT ALL ) to be one of the best actions ever made. Not the best, but it sure has a real serious following. At any rate, have fun with it, and let us know how it shoots.

That combo will last you a lifetime....I've sighted in 5 ADLs in various calibers in the past 3-4 years, all grouped very well...Enjoy...

After reading all the reviews, I was pretty confident it would be a great buy if I managed to find one. Luckily, I did. Haven't yet mounted my Leupold scope or took it out to shoot yet, but I am hoping to do that this weekend. Still need to call a few places and see if I can find a quality base and set of rings without having to order them online. Yeah, I know what you mean about the 30-06. I'm glad they had one left. Looking forward to getting the scope mounted and seeing just how well it shoots. I still wasn't expecting the price to be that cheap. I'm sure I'll buy some more rifles in different calibers and maybe he get some of the nicer models later on. I haven't hunted the land here in a good 3-4 years, so I'm really excited to see what comes around this year. Another reason I decided to grab a new rifle. Still wish I had my bow I sold last year. But that just gives me a reason to buy a new one next year.
