RE: .280 Remington
In 1999 I went on my first bear hunt in the upper peninsula of Michigan. At that time i only owned one rifle, a Remington 700 mountain rifle in .280 Rem. I shot my bear at 60 yards. The bullet broke both shoulders and the bear ran/crawled about 10 yards. Looking back on that hunt I think I would have chosen a more durable bullet. I was using a 140 gr. ballistic tip! What was I thinking??? oh well, luckily it worked and the bear is now hanging on my living room wall. So yes I would not hesitate to reccomend the .280 for black bear. The ballistics for a .280 are similar to that of a 7mm Rem. magnum, without all the recoil. I don't think anyone would ever question using a 7 mag for bear. Happy hunting, Bricat
