Default Where to get 7.62x54R ammo?

One of my friends just bought a Mosin Nagant. This is his first gun which he got mainly because it's from WWII, but he also wants to shoot it a bit. Do you know where he would be able to find 7.62x54R ammunition for it? What kind of places would carry it?

check your local gunshops get what you can to start shooting, then check the net, google 7.62x54r ammo, check http://www.centerfiresystems.com, http://www.cheaperthendirt.com, http://www.natchzss.com there are more lot more I know, but can't think of the address' right now. when you order from any compenys add $20 for hazmat fees to be safe.

centerfire systems just charges shipping, $9.99 - 12 they are a zone shipper that is up to 300 rounds. they have BAG of 20 rds for $4.99 and 10+ is 4.50/BAG.
they also have sellier & bellot 180gr fmj 20 rds 14.99 and 180 gr sp 20rds 18.99. I never ordered from them so I can't tell ya how they are, I had there flier on my desk

Default RE: Where to get 7.62x54R ammo?

I bought 100 empty 7.62X54R cases from Graf's, and I found that with the Speer 180-grain roundnose bullet, my old M91-30 shot very well with 53 grains of IMR 4350 and Federal 210 primers. A mild load, and accurate. About +4", and dead-on for windage at 100 yards.

ammoman.com
Aimsurplus.com

Are the two I've bought ammo from in the past.

Bulgarian and Czech surplus ammo tends to be good stuff if you can find it. You used to be able to get 880 rd crates of Czech 7.62x54r for around $60+ shipping.

From reports that I've heard, the russian surplus ammo that's available isn't so great.

In the long run its better to just reload. 6 years ago, 8x57 ammo was everywhere at almost the price of .22LR ammo, but now you won't find surplus of it anywhere.

I dunno if he'll be getting into reloading any time soon (we're poor college kids so I likely won't do that for a few years yet myself!) but thanks for the replies.

Lee makes a Lee Loader for 7.62x54R
Probably the least expensive reloading tool ever.
