Tom-apperently you are remembering the taurus guns of yesteryear. Today's taurus revolvers are top of the line comparable to s&w. They have come a long way from the eariler examples. I know this to be fact. I own 3 taurus revolvers and they perform as good as anything else you put them up against.

I'd say the perfect bedside companion if you plan on using lots of lube and doing dirty things with it.
I wouldn't use a Taurus as a paper weight. Might fail to do it's job.
If you can't tell I don't like Taurus very much.

Thanks, I have owned several as well and have always been pleased. The judge seems like the perfect home defense weapon. Small and out of the way, yet easy to utilize in a late night emergency.
I got one a couple of weeks ago. Shot it for the first time and was impressed with the accuracy of the 45.. Not so impressed with the patter of the 410.. Recoil was mild, but I did have an issue with the the cylinder getting hung when I shot the 45... Gonna give it a few more rounds to see if it works itself out..
Hopefully if you have to send it back your gun will get a different treament than the treatment mine got. They bent a 1.5" barrel back into place as opposed to providing me with a brand new barrel!
Taurus is junk.
