Whats the pro and cons on different barrel groove amounts?? I was looking at Pac-Nor's website and they have 3,4,5,6 grooveand polygonal barrels. Whats the difference??

Thanks

Default RE: 3 groove, 4 groove barrels??????

I have fooled with all types of rifling over the years and to this day cannot tell which type rifling or number of grooves just by looking at target. In theory, there are differences such as cut vsbutton vs hammer forged rifling as well as number of grooves. The idea being that smaller, shallower grooves won't deform bullet as much as fewer deeper grooves but I havn't found any set rules resulting from those. In my opinion, the more uniform and more precision a barrel is made-the better it will shoot regardless of style. As I build very few full blown specialized target rifles,I'm sure someone in here can reply with more knowledge than me.
