Default steel shot safety

I have a 1970"s model Remington Mohawk 48 semi auto. It had a fixed modified choke barrel. Is there any reason why I shouldn"t use it with steel 2 ¾" 4 shot? I would love to take it out, but am wondering if the older fixed chokes can hold up to steel.
