Default Whitworth rifle company

I have a rifle based on a p17 Enfield action.Stock is a custom light brown walnut,monticarlo style. 30-06 Made by Whitworth Rifle Company
Manchester,England stamped on the barrel. It shoots 220gr bullets better than 180gr or 150gr. Has anybody herd of the company.

I haven't heard of Whitworth for years!!! I didn't know the sold converted 1917 enfields.....but they used to do a fine job of commercial mausers.....I never owned one.....they always looked like a premium high grade Safari type rifle.

They are not listed in my 2001 shooters bible.....I assume they are defunct!

P17's made in the U S were 30-06, I'm not sure of the ones made in England.
After WW2 thousands were sold over here and "sporterized" by gun dealers.
