Default Ammunition for my rem-1100

I am shooting a remington 1100 with a rifled barrel and a Leupold VX1 2-7x scope. I was wondering what ammunition people suggest in this set-up. I would like to be able to shoot to 100yards.

Buy several brands of sabots, shoot them and your gun will tell you.

Bender,

nchawkeye is absolutely right. I would however suggest that you start with the remington copper solids. You don't need 3". The 2 3/4" work just fine out to 100 yds. They group awesome in my remington 1100 and my Ithaca deerslayer II.

I have had good results with the 2 3/4" Lightfields in my 1100. None of the smaller/faster slugs have worked well for me. The SST's grouped decent (4") at 100 yards, but the groups opened up real fast beyond that.

I have an 1100 with a rifled slug barrel. I have experimented with several different sabot slugs. None shoot any better out of mine than the Rem. Buck hammers. Just be ready when you pull the trigger because the recoil is quite noticeable. You will wanta good eye relief with your scope. Mine is open sights. I was clover leafing at50 yards, and 3-4inches at 100. I bet with a scope I would do a little better.

The lightfields shot well also.

I can't remember all that I tried, but some would not group at all. It can get expensive quick, but if I were you I would try the two I mentioned first and see if they will work.

It cost me a fortune to find out my Rem liked the reduced recoil copper solids the best which I don't mind cause I still think they have enough uummph at the ranges I will be shooting at.Pretty near beat me to a pulp working thru box after box of premium ammo. I did sight it in initially with sluggers just to get it on paper. Sure like the $3.00 a box slugs better than the $15.00.
I don't know about you guys but I can shoot my .308 all day but after 30 rounds of 12g slugs I "THINK" I might have been developing a flinch.
During my sighting in I found the SST's were actually coming apart before they even hit the target. In a couple of instances I was able to pick pieces of copper out of my backboard. I spoke with Hornady and gave them the lot number ect and was gonna ship the remaining ones back but it's a pain to send out a couple of boxes of ammo.
My old 1100 with rifles sights and smoothbore barrel is all I ever really needed anyway and it love sluggers...

You got that right. When I first got my slug barrel, I thought thegas operated 1100 would tame the recoil a bit. If it does, I don't notice it. The raw power of a hot 12 ga.slug load out of a short barrel is awesome.
It is kind of cool though to see the shiny bolt and firing pin through the muzzle of the barrel as you are walking back to the bench from your target.
