Default Local walmart

I went to my local walmart looking to see if they could order a savage 30-06 package gun. Well the guy had one or two in the back so he went to get it and I was looking at the other guns. A rem 700adl 30-06 cost about 430.00 or so. When the guy got back, the savage cost 480.00! That crappy scope isn't worth that. So I told the guy to order the 111G rifle (the one with no scope and sights) and he said it was about the same price as the remington!? Wait, so I always thought the remington was a better rifle right? So why are they the same price? I always hear of the savage as being a basicly cheaper rifle, but they came out about the same price. It was only like 10-15 dollars less than the sugested retail price. That's crazy. So should I get a remington?

Prices vary from place to place and store to store.I've noticed Wal*Mart for an example each store on allot of their items prices are different. Can be in the same town, but have different prices on the same item. The Remington 700ADL is a nice rifle. Before you buy from Wal*mart check out www.gunsamerica.com. You can find NIB guns for much lower prices. Compare prices. Most dealers charge around 20.00 for receiving & transfering. There is a three day return policy on most guns.To answer your question as a rule Savage are less expensive then Remington,Ruger,Winchester etc.Savage does make nice no frills rifles ,that will drive tacks. So they say.I've never owned a Savage so it's hear say for my experiences with Savage.I did buy a Rem 700 ADL back about 6 years ago from the once pro gun K Mart for 329.00. Nice gun for that price, but are getting steep like everything else today.Don't overlook the Win M-70's and the Ruger M-77's, Check out Tika's. Supposely another well made rifle that I have no knowledge of either..

walmart orders in 1000s at a time...they order more remingtons and winchesters than savages because less people want savages when they can sell the better guns for around the same price...savages are ok guns they do have some higher grade guns but id rather have a model 70 any day..they way i see it if you wait and save your pennys you cna buy the better rifle and never need another one..where cheaper guns break and dont shoot for beans alot of times....guns ammo and scopes are the things i never skimp on...i mean sure i could shoot 9$ corelokts that i lost 2 deer with one of whiche was a good hit but high and never expanded so it didnt hit the spine or lungs when my dad hit one the same place it never took another breath because a ballistic tip hit the spine and the lungs...sure i could buy a tasco that one already broke on my causeing my bullets to fly untrue and making me wound and loose 2 deer and miss one..now i either reload or shoot premiums and bought a leupold...and im 15...pennys are hard to come by!...ive always heard remingtons and whinnys are better than savage but ive heard good things about a few savages..and i have a semi 22 thats a savage and love it...a neat little gun and a good shooter...never malfunctions...i like it...play with a few and see what you like best...ask around to guys you know that hunt and see what they use and how it shoots and if they had problems...my walmart sells model 70s for like 360 with a simmons 3x9...sure its a 30$ scope but thats still cheap for the gun bases rings and all....and i agree if you find the right gunshop you will think you hit a gold mine..but ive also seen guys selling remington 700s for 750-800...just standard 700s! my sucker of a friend bought one he got it for like 550 or somthing and told me it was on sale like 200 or 250 off! thats crazy....that guy must not sell much except to people like him that dont know any better...shop around if you have the time...

Good info.

I used to have a model 70, but I didn't like the stock, and it was synthetic. I would really like a wooden stocked gun. Mauser, I have also lost deer due to remington bullets, and so has my dad. I'll check around some other places.

Go back to Wal-Mart and look for the Wal-Mart Weatherby. It is made by Howa and it will probably be the cheapest of the three, and maybe the best. I think they are making them in both .270 Win and .30-06.

You won't find too many rifles at this price that will beat it.

Most of the Walmarts I've been in are far cheaper than any of the sporting good shops or gun stores. In fact many times you'll find guns at $25 or so more than the average FFL can order them for. It really does pay to buy in bulk.

I've had mixed results with our local wal-mart. Some great deals (Ruger All-weather for $325) and some not so great deals (Remington 7600 for $550). Like everything it pays to shop around.
