Default What .270 WSM Bullet?

I hope this is the correct forum for this quesiton? I would like to ask those of you who use the Remington 700 .270 WSM. What bullets are you using? I have been looking everywhere and talking to many people and all have different views. Since i live in Houston and will be hunting around the South and West Texas area for deer and what not. What does your gun like. Some say stay with a 130 grain while others are die hard for a 140 grain. Well i shot my gun for the first time since buying it. I used the 140 grain Winchester Accubond bullet. Seem to group ok once the scope was sighted in. Just not sure if this is the best bullet? I know i don't want anything more than a 140 grain since i will not be hunting large game. Mostly some exotics and deer. As well as varmit, pigs etc.etc.

Thanks for you input

Jeff

I've never shot a .270 WSM, so can't really speak from experience, other than to say that either 130's or 140's are more than enough for anything you'll shoot in Texas, unless maybe you go after Bison or some of the very large exotics on a private hunting preserve. I'd just try a few loads, see which groups best out of my rifle, and then buy a few boxes of whichever one that is... As a point of reference, the last two years, I've used a .243 Win, with 100 gr. PSP Core Lokt's for Texas whitetails, and out of the 4 deer I've shot, only one has gone more than two steps after the shot. So, I'd expect your WSM will perform at least as well... Good luck!

I have a cousin that has a .270 WSM, he shoots the Federal Premium 140 gain Accubond, it does the job.

That is the bullet that I shoot. I love it, I have not had a deer run off after I shot it.

The fella's 270wsm I load for didn't shoot 130's that well for whatever reason, the only exception was the barnes 130 TSX which kept them under 1.5" at 100. His rifle loved the 140gr Nosler Accubond and that is what he used to harvest both antelope and deer last fall, he was pleased with the perfromance. This fall he will be hunting moose as well with itand weworked upa 150gr Nosler Partition load that shoots.

The Accubond will do what your asking but the only way to tell for sure is compare it with others then go with whichever shoots the best. I have found that some rifles shoot Winchester ammo better and some prefer the comparable Federal ammo. Since you were ok with the groups the winchester ab gave you, why not try a box of the Federal Premium 140 Ab's for S&G's.

Best of luck

you can't go wrong with an accubond, I shoot them exclusively in my magnum calibers.

I loaded the 140 grain Ballistic tips in my 270 WSM. They worked great for deer.

My Remington 700xcr in 270wsm shoots good with the 150gr. Winchester Power Point ammo. Chronographed them at 3200fps. I am going to pick up some Winchester Supreme in the 140gr. Accubonds and try them.
