I need a little help. This year in Indiana they have made legal any rifle that shoots a pistol cartridge (cowboy cartridge.) However, there is no one in Southern Indiana that sells this type of rifle. Do you know any gun makes that make a rife that shoots a pistol cartridge? Any info would be great!!
Marlin should have somthing that will work for you, as well as NEF. If a dealer doesn't have any of these type rifles, they sure as heck can order one for you.
I'm not surejust what a pistol cartridge is. Is any straight walled case legal? Or does the state allow only specified cartridges?

I think the newIndiana law specifies a minimum and maximum case length and a minimum caliber.
Edit: Here's what it says:
Quote:
Rifles with pistol cartridges that fire a bullet of .357-inch diameter or larger; have a minimum case length of 1.16 inches; and have a maximum case length of 1.625 inches are legal to use only during the deer firearms season. Some cartridges legal for deer hunting include the 357 Magnum, 38-40 Winchester, 41 Magnum, 41 Special, 44 Magnum, 44 Special, 44-40 Winchester, 45 Colt, 454 Casull, 475 Linebaugh, 480 Ruger, 50 Action Express, and 500 S&W.
You orta check out the puma lever action in .454 casull. It's my all time favorite conventional handgun cartridge with twice the energy of a .44 magnum. You can aslo use cheaper, lower recoiling .45lc for practice.

We need to stop using these terms today, "Sniper Rifle", "Tactical", "Assault Weapon".
I agree that Puma is a great option. As mentioned also, you should check out the NEF Handi Rifles as well. You can get them in the 44, 454 and 500 S&W (which is legal).
For just a little more than the Puma's you can set up an Encore with either of the cartridges listed above.
I'm going to play with my Model 94 44 mag this year. My opinion is that's all the bigger I need since I'm not scoping my rifle. I won't shoot past 100 yards or so with open sights so why get anything bigger than a 44 mag. If you're going to hunt with a scoped rifle then the 454 and the 500 should be considered. Again JMO!

Winchester Model 94 Big Bore 444 Marlin
Winchester Model 70 300 Win Mag.
-Leupold 4-12X40
Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag.
Indiana now allows rifles (regardless of action type) chambered in what are traditional pistol cartridges, as long as they are 357 or larger, with cases no longer than 1.625".
Previously they considered an "antique rifle" season, for lever action, tube magazinerifle models that date to 1895 or older (I think). That would have allowed new manufacture guns like Marlin 1895 in 45/70 for example. It would not have allowed the Savage 1899. Too bad it failed.
Anyway, I'm sure any gun shop would be happy to order one up for you.
