I am fairly sure I know this one. But someone else might have some input. I sold one of my browning gold's yesterday and did it so I could get a full camo turkey gun. I like the back boring of the golds and they seemed to pattern much better than my remington 870's and 1187.
I want that patterning but figure I don't need the semi's anymore for turkey. Does anyone know if the BPS is about the same as the gold barrels? Anyone compare the pattern of one to the other? I realize the choke is about the most important thing here. But thought someone might have some real world results.
I might go buy a Browning NWTF 24" BPS today full camo.
I have had 2 bps for turkey but both were 10 gauge. I havn't had any shooting experience with 12 gauge bps. The first I left stock and let a buddy talk me out of it. The second was a stalker model. With all other things being equal,a 10 gauge 3.5" will pattern tighter than a 12 gauge 3.5". This is because of a shorter but wider shot load/string thus less pellet deformation. Yall can argue with me but that is the truth. The stalker I set up to be the ultimate turkey gun and got what I wanted at the time-since then I switched over to bowhunting only, even for turkey.
I backbored, tapered forcing cone, ported, hand honed blank choke tube, indexed it to bore, and drilled reciever for full saddle mount(6 8x40),and red dot sight. At 60 yards-NOT 40-it would put the WHOLE pattern into 37"-40". Needless to say,It was the tightest patterning shotgun I've ever seen outside of outlaw turkey shoot guns.

I had 4 golds. And needed to thin the herd. I hunted for turkey in snow this year, and my gold hunter and gold stalker stuck out like a sore thumb. So I want a camo'd gun. My choices were send off to get diped for around 200 dollars or just buy a new one. Ok, so I don't want to pay 1000 for a camo'd gold, but sold the gold for $450.
So there is no need for a semi, on turkey, I have never felt the need for it. So I have enough money for a BPS.

Oh yea, I believe ya about the 10Ga thing stalker. I see it with alot of goose hunting comparing the two. But I don't want to go the 10ga route. Ammo is not available as 3" and 3.5" 12ga for turkey. But steel shot is for goose hunters for 10ga.
TheBPSis supposed to already be backboredand forcing cone lengthened to the max. Did yougo further? I have had 870 barrels worked on, but my gunsmith said he won't do it on a newer browning, cause at that point, you are hurting performance.
The eariler bps weren't backbored as they are now. Yes,I went "whole hog" with it,shooting to check pattern and hone a bit at a time as I went.
On steel shot, there's a bunch of shotshells available these days that kick steel shot plumb off the map. Also, with the weight of the 10 gauge bps,it recoils quite a bit less than a 12 gauge 3.5". In fact if you can hold it up-you can shoot em with 1 hand. If you want the ultimate turkey gun-go with 10 gauge. It will be specialized for turkey only, but it sounds like you already have enough shotguns to use on everything else.

Well, I went with the stardard 26" Mossy Oak BPS 3.5". It was $590 at Bass Pro, and will send in for $75 rebate from Browning. I wanted the NWTF with 24" barrel and comes with XF choke and trivis sights. But it was 100 dollars more. And I really want to outfit my own sights and aftermarket choke. Have to live with the 26" barrel.
