Default Remington 700 SP

Who can tell me more about this rifle? I spotted one in D i c k s Sporting Goods yesterday for $399, the tag said D i c k s Exclusive. I want to buy a short action with a308 bolt face. Theone in D i c k s was a 300 WSM, which does not suit my needs. The guy atD i c k s was not much help in telling me if they were available in other calibers. I have also searched Remingtons website and did notfind anything.

Do you mean SPS. If so this means Special Purpose Synthetic. $399 would be a good price. I have two that I paid $469 and $489 for. They come in .243, .270 WSM, 7mm-08, .308 and .300 WSM as well as a bunch of long action cartridges. They are a no frills tools based on a proven action.

No it is a 700 SP. It has a wooden stock. I have been looking at SPS as well they come in the caliber that I need. I was wasting time when I went into D i cks, not expecting them to have anything. Then I saw the $399 price tag and became very interested very fast. The kid behind the counter was not helpful at all. I search the internet and found nothing. Di cks does not list firearms online so I could not research them there. I thought I would post here to see if anyone knew about them. So far I have a resounding NO.

I've seen them. Its SP= Special Purpose, SPS=special purpose synthetic I believe they are discontinued now. they where what replaced the old ADL. Wood stock without a floor plate. 399 is a decent price, I would say that you will be confined to whatever Cal. they have left in stock.

I just got one at Dick's yesterday in Portsmouth (Newington)NH. The 300 wsm was marked down to $399. They let me use coupons, and I got it down to $330! No sales tax here either. Last one in 300 wsmin New England, according to the employee looking at an on line inventory.
I have purchased a new unused take off SPS stock from a CA gunsmith for $50, with the F3 recoil reducer, and plan on re-stocking the gun. As awoodworker in my spare time, I just can't take a wood stocked hunting rifle into the woods and bash it all up. I will sell the wood stock on eBay, possibly for $75, and bring the cost of the new gun down to $305! Original price was $529 at Dick's.Dick's is clearing outa 7mm and 30.06 Rem 700, for $450 or so. Coincidentally, the CA gunsmith has a new unused 300 WSM barrel for sale for $50. He says the new SPS stock coming my way is from that rifle. So 300 WSM is going from wood to synthetic.
