Default savage .243

my local gun shop has a savage (11? i think not posotive) .243 there asking 350 for it. it comes wit a3-9 scope, regular barrel and im not sure if it has the accu-trigger or not. ive been waiting for awhile for them to get in a used savage .243 but the price seems a little high i think. i already have basiclly the same scope (simmons 8-point 3-9) so i dont know if i should wait till they get one in w/o a scope or not. they already said that they wont take the scope off and put it on another gun.

ill basiclly will only be using this for coyotes here in iowa, but i wanted a gun i could use incase i ever went mule deer or antelipe hunting out west.

If it is a 111 it most likely has the accu-trigger. The price does seem alittle high for I believe you can get the savage 111 with the 3x9x40 scope for arround $400-450 as a pkg. deal. What is the condition of the gun?

Seems a little steep to me. I saw a nice used Remington 700 BDL in .243 the other day, and they were asking $350 out the door, including a better scope than an 8-point.

If you've really got your heart set on a .243 and they're scarce in your part of Iowa, you might be willing to pay a premium--otherwise, I think $300 is more fair.

On the other hand, if the rifle is like new, has an Accu-Trigger, and just calls out to you to buy it and take it home, then $350 might be worth it.

I would wait and get the Accu-trigger! I got a Savage 111 in a .204 w/AT for $299.00 from Gander on clearance sale. Great gun, even better deal!!! I put a Leupold VX II 3x9 and this gun is a Coyote killer!!!!!!!! I got the gun 7/28 and already dropped 3 Coyotes!

I would think with deer season coming up people will be trading in their guns for new one so you might find a deal on a used gun, maybe not a Savage!

I would also suggest holding out for the accu-trigger, even if it means paying another 50-75 bucks. You may be able to find a used Savage WITH an accutrigger if you shop around. This may bring down your cost if used.
And if you WANT a more all around rifle then DEFINITELY get the 30/06, or at least a .308. Hard to go wrong with either .... and a larger selection of ammo will be available almost ANYWHERE for the .308 or 30/06.

You could split the difference with a 7mm/08. It will easily load down for yotes and easily handle antelope and mule deer. Lots of loading components available for the .284 caliber.

If you want it SPECIFICALLY for coyotes then the .243 is great.
