RE: 20 ga slug gun ammo
Rifled or smooth bore? Some of the newer modern sabots for rifled barrels have similar performance to inline muzzle loaders. On paper many of them can probably kill out to 200 yards. Realistically, probably more like 150 yards if you happen to have a gun that can shoot that well at that distance. 200 yards seems to be the holey grail of slug shooting.
For a smooth bore 20 ga I would say 100 yards would be pushing it, if you could get your gun to shoot that far. 50-75 yards is probably more realistic.
With the newer sabot loads the 20 and the 12 ga are pretty much on par with each other. The 20 maybe having the slight edge in accuracy and the 12 ga having the upper hand with heavier bullet weights. Both kill about the same at equal distances though when you boil it all down.
For a smooth bore the 12 ga has a distinct advantage. I would suggest reduced reciol 12 ga loads over a 20 myself, but a 20 will kill deer.
My opinions and nothing more.
