I think it is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. They already chamber the Icon in 308 win. And you can't tell me a deer would ever notice the difference between the two.

Exactly what longrifle said. it's just thier attempt to get thier own proprietory cartridge. wonder who will be the first to jump on this cartridge and then forget his ammo at home only to find no shops stock the ammo. Such a great thing .

Kinda like the 308 Marlin that re-invented the 300 Savage?

30 caliber is probably the most shot caliber, with the possible exception of 22 caliber. 30 caliber is definitely the most popular deer cartridge. short action light rifles are becoming more and more popular. It could easily be the next .308 Winchester. It is new and improved. I can remember all the negative comments about the 300WSM, 25-06, 7mm Rem. Mag., 6.5X284, Weatherby Magnum's, I could go on and on. Why suchdoom and gloom about new cartridge's. I think we should welcome all newcartridge's, and ballistic development. Do you think they just drew it out of a hat??? I would bet TC spent a lot of time and moneydeveloping this new cartridge. Tom.

I think it'll be a handloader's cartridge. Just fits itself between the 308 and 30-06

Lets see, the new .30TC launches a 150gr SST at 3000fps. The 308 Winchester loaded with a 150gr SST is 2820fps in standard loading, and their light mag loading clocks 3000fps. Both are a short action caliber. So, what exactly does the TC offer?

And I am not doom and gloom for all new cartridges. I can certainly see where most have a place. But this particular new cartridge offers nothing new. It's not any shorter, faster, or any more deadly than the 308 that is more widely available.

I did not say it would replace the 308 Winchester. I said it could be just as popular. The 308 basically replaced the 30-06 because it is inherently more accurate(in the hunting world). I realize it was the military cartridge, and it fits in a short action. But I was around when the target guy's were shooting 308, and it was not because of action length, it was because it was a more accurate round. To make the statements you made then surely you have tried the new 30TC. Have you, I doubt it. Keep an open mind. The market will dictate it's success.

I am sorry if I stepped on your toes. But if you have notpersonally tried the cartridge yourself, then I consider your comment doom and gloom. I remember when the 300UM came out. People called it the most ridiculous cartridge they ever heard of. I know of a half dozen in use, including the one I have, and it is awesome. If I had listened to the doom and gloomer's then I would have never bought it. Tom.

Like Head0001 said, the 30 T/C will not replace the .308 Win., or the 30/06 for that matter. I do not think it will even come close to being as popular as the either the .308 Win. or the 30/06. The 30 T/C has nothing to offer advantage wise, over either of those 2 rounds. Nothing at all.It may have a fewloyal T/C fans running outto buy one, but I don't see the masses getting rid of their .308 Wins or 30/06s and rushing out to buy one. Within 3-5 years it will seldom be mentioned, written about, and on it's way to obscurity, to that bone yard of forgotten cartridges.
