Default Marlin 30-30/308 XLR?

Has anyone tried the Marlin XLR in either of these calibers and if so what did you think about it?

I have not tried the new longer barrel model but they should improve the ballistics of the shorter barrel a little. The newer 308 Model will have more velocity and ME than the 30-30.

I was going to say the same thing.

I handled a XLR 30-30 for the first time over the weekend and am very impressed with the feel and balance. I doubt that I will ever own one since I have a brand new 336SS, but I was impressed with the gun.

The marlin 308MX (that fires the marlin 308 Express) isn't even in the hands of any retailers yet. I called all around Kansas City and no one has it. Cabela's said they will have them on sale as of Oct 31st. It will retail at $699 (over $200 more than a new marlin 336C in 30-30 or 35 remington). Coupled with a good scope and open sights it looks like it will be the ultimate deer rifle It's funny because Cabela's actually has the 308 Express ammo but no rifle [&:].....

Just because Cabelas doesn't have them, doesn't mean no one does. There is one on Marlinowners.com in the classifieds now, and there is talk of other dealers having them.

Hmmm... interesting, I didn't just check with Cabelas but Basspro, Dicks and several smaller local gun dealers. None of them said they had any in and only Cabelas said they were planning on getting them in. That being said, I saw from Marlinowners.com that not only were people able to order them but got them for a price substantially lower then what they would retail at Cabelas. I may have to look into this more carefully....
