If you don't want to spring for the correct scope for the SCOUT application, try one of the less-expensive pistol scopes that have intermediate eye relief. I once used a relatively cheap 2.5X Tasco pistol scope on a Mauser mounted that way. I later used the same scope on a 12-gai in a Weaver mount setup that has a base that clamps on the ventilated rib of a 12-Ga. shotgun to shoot slugs. It worked OK on both guns, and withstood the recoil of a 12-Ga. shotgun slug load. Inow have that same scope on a Taurus Raging Bull .454 Casull, and it hasn't quit yet, despite being a cheap scope and having several hundred rounds fired through that .454! Don't recall the model number, but it is a 30mmscope.
