17Rem, 17hrm; take your pick either is a waste of good capital. the 17hrm is anemic at best; 17Rem must be so'd from Remington and like the hmr has only one commercial load. Cost of 17hmr is more than 22wrm, and has less bullet weight, read kinetic energy; why buy it? 17hmr is a solution to a problem that never was nor a question that was never asked.
Go with a 223rem, more loads, better versatlity, and its affordable to shoot. 17hrm is a great marketting item. Give it three or so years to see if it fades like several other "new" calibers do.

Well its different but thats about all I can say for it.Its cheaper for me to shoot my 223 or 222 Rem than it is the 17 hmr ,and most of the time nobody has ammo for it around here .

If you're talking 17hornady I'd probably stick to the Savage. In tests it out performed the Ruger (almost twice the price)and the New England Arms. Price on itt not sure. I pay dealer,s cost which is $162& change, figure on adding 10% and that should be in the neighborhood for the Savage.
As far as a scope ,maybe a Bushnell Trophy in a 3-12. A very nice scope for the money without emptying your wallet.

I've looked at one of the Marlin's, Savage and Ruger 17's.The quality of the Marlin I looked at was very poor. The Savage was much better quality. The Ruger was beautiful but about twice the price. The ammunition for these little jewels are to high in my opinion. My fear is the 17 Hornady won't make the grade and the 17 ammo will dry up like the old Remington 5mm.I'll stick with the 22 mag .

I saw a Savage at a gun show for $205, including tax. I'm going to the gun show in Lexington, KY this weekend. I may pick one up.
The one I saw had scope bases already on it. Rugers were around $450 or more. Thats a big difference, and Ruger triggers aren't that great anyway.
