Default Savage 93R

Dick's has one with a Bushnell scope and thumbhole stock. Should I get one, or just break down and get a 10/22?

It's a good gun, but unless you have a need for the .17, I'd prefer the cheap and fun plinking of a 10/22.

I was probably going to get in chambered in .22LR, though I've been considering .17HMR. I'd have to do some more research, as I don't know too much about .17HMR...

I have a Savage 93R17HMR with a heavy barrel and it is a complete tack driverat 100yds. I can put a group of 3 bullets touching at 100yds. They are rediculously accurate. I definately suggest one. I also have a 10/22 and it comes nowhere near the 93R17 accuracy wise. IfI had my choice it would be the 93R17.

The 93Rs are all 17 caliber. The 93Fs and Gs are 22 mags. No model 93s chambered for LR. You would be looking at a Savage Mark II for a LR, which is pretty similar. They're good, accurate guns, but can be picky on the ammo they will feed. I recommend the cheap Federal value packs from Wal-mart, they give me the least problems, and Golden Bullets seem to give me the most. The 10/22 can be accurate if you get the full sized one, and they're great fun and can be upgraded easily. Just depends on the action you want, bolt or semi-auto.
