Interesting. I usually treat my guns this way when new.

Well, I know one thing, the poster from texasposse did not hear that breaking in barrels keeps them in business from Hart or Shilen. This goes back to McMillian who made that comment years ago. If you know how to break in, it can be interesting and effective at getting a barrel settled in to get more consistent velocities and better accuracy. Or you can put 200 rounds down the barrel to do the same thing. But following a chart or routine generally won't get the job done

I have never broke any barels in as I have stated. My oldest being a rem 700BDL 7mm RM with removeable clip has about 350+ rnds thru it and shoots 1/4 to 3/8 MOA at 100 yrds still. Factory loads that is. I actually never heardof break in until a few years ago and didn't really consider it much of an issue. Even my AK 47 still shoots very acurate considering the RNDs I put thru it. Or should this just beperformed for the high power magnums?

1/4" groups at 100 yards? Wow, you ought to enter into some benchrest competition with that accuracy. I see guys build 20lb guns that do that.

My friend has a browning A-bolt medelion30-06 that shoots that tight also. Each shot is touching the first. It's not all about the gun you know? The gun is only asgood as the person also.

I'm not so sure the breaking in process has as much to do with the barrel as it does the shooter. The more rounds you put through a weapon, the more accustomed you become to working with it, and the better your groups become. I have been shooting for a while, and sometimes I go shoot 20 rounds, sometimes I shoot 100. When I come home, I clean the weapon. The best predictor for my accuracy is trigger time on the weapon, not anything I do for maintenence.

I don't know. Alot of those 1/4" groups going on here on the guns forum from people only owning 1 or 2 rifles. Maybe its just people who hang out in the guns forum[8D]

bc...I don't understand your questioning 1/4' groups. I shot one once with my 700 BDL varmint that I totally bedded, freefloated, did months of load development for, and had topped with a 15X Unertl Ultra-Varmint scope. It was a .243. Yes, I too did it. Once.
