Default Rem. 770

Remington is offering a new package gun, the 770. Does anyone know if they have really improved the 710 action or is it the same thing with a new model number?

I think they gave it a new stock and bolt, andused stronger materials, but its basically pretty similar.

I haven't seen or shot a 770 but reading Remington own material leads me to believe it nothing more than a 2nd generation 710. That being the case, I would avoid being the 1st person to buy one. They couldn't name it the 710 MK2 because no one would buy it. IMO if you want the best inexpensive package rifle on the market, get a Savage.

My last Savage made me a return customer for sure. When the 710 came out, I liked the idea of it, but I never heard a good word about it. I saw the 770 a couple of days ago and wondered if they had made significant improvements. I went to their site and it looks like a rebadge more than a redesign.

I'll agree with that. I absolutely LOVE my Savage .270and wouldn't shoot anything else at this point in time. The AccuTrigger is great and it will will put 3 shots touching each other at 100 yards.

The model 770s are simply upgrades of model 710. I personally wouldn,t buy 1. I however would buy any savage that seys browning a-bolt on side.
If yall think I'm being too critical with savage,I have fought with savage customer service for YEARS therefore I would never reccomend savage. I do understand that they have gotten better but am permanently soured on them by their loust customer service in past.

Don't give up on Savage, I had a bull-barrel tactical version while on the job that would shoot microscopic groups. When I bought the Savage package gun on clearance at Wallyworld($170), I really didn't expect similar performance, but I was wrong. The groups were not quite as tight as my work gun, but still tight. It didn't weigh 14 pounds either. The doc took me offmagnum calibers last year (the gun was 7mag), so I had to sell it. Got 300 bucks for it.

I am a true believer of the 700 series of Remingtons. But I wouldn't trade one Savage rifle for five 710's or any of it's variants. If the Remington rifle company wants to outdo Savage, Stevens, or Mossberg rifles they are just going to have to do away with the 710 series period. I have shot a 710. A decent rifle but not close to any of the three mentioned. The ADL should be back on the market if they are wanting to compete. Savage rifles are a great buy for the money.
