Default gun stock how to clean?

I bought a old gun and the stock is real dirty any ideas on what to use for cleaning up stock on gun

I would try Murphy's Oil Soap, warm water, and a soft rag. Take the stock off and scrub it real good . Let it dry a couple days then aplly something like Johnson Paste Wax, amybe even a couple coats. Then reassemble.

If it still looks dirty after you soap it as it stated in the previous post, after it dries and before you put on the wax try rubing the stock with some real fine steel wool.

The best thing to use on an old finished stock (or any kind of wood) is turpentine. You probably can't find real turpentine but the synthetic works just fine. Cleans all old dirt, sweat, glue residue from tape, etc. Won't harm the finish either. I would not use any water based cleaners/soaps! You don't know what the finish is and could soak through and discolor the wood.
