Default Short barreled bolt gun with iron sights

I'm looking for a small handy brush gun with a bolt action. It will be used for wild hogs and the occasional spanish goat. Maybe even a small blacktail deer or two. I like the .308 caliber, wouldn't mind a .270 either. The ammo has to be pretty readily available because it's hard to find those weird calibers in Hawaii. The gun must have a short barrel around 20" or shorter. Here's the hard part. It also must have iron sights. Most of the hunting here is in dense brush where visilbility is under 25 yards. Scopes dont make much sense because of the low light and constant moisture and rain. I would like to be able to fix a scope on if needed but the iron sights are cruuucial. i really like the model 7 but they dont make any with iron sights. anyone have any experience with the remington model 673?

How much are you wanting to spend? I have the exact gun you are describing. It is a Blaser R-93 synthetic with a 19.75" barrel with rifle sights in 308. It currently has a Swarovski 3-9x36mm scope in quick detach mounts on it.

If you can find 7.62x39 check out the CZ 527. Nice light open sights, Great hunting rifle. I have a slightly different brand, but basically the same rifle.

cheap plinking ammo plus Remington, winchester, federal and Corbon all load a nice softpoint bullet for hunting.

If you are on a budget, the little NEF 308 Ultra Hunter would be great for about 250.00

Im willing to save up and spend up to about 800ish on the rifle. so this puts me in the nice gun range. I already have a 30/30 Winchester 94 with a williams peep, but it has no real safety, not even a half cock and I dont feel totally safe unless there's no bullet in the chamber, which isn't good for bush stalking.

I like the looks of the savage, but I'm worried the LOP (length of pull) won't fit me right. Theres no gun shops here on Kauai so I can forget shouldering one to see if it fits fine.

Remington makes a Model 7 in .308 Win. (as well as other chamberings). It is light, short and has iron sights, just what you are looking for. I'm not sure if the new ones come with iron sights but they did a few years ago. It's a great little rifle and not too expensive.I have one and useit often although I have a scope on mine (took off the iron sights)

First rifle I would look for is a remington 788 made last 2 years (1983,1984) in 18.5 barrel. Next would be either a remington model 7,ruger 77rl,or a kimber 84.
