Default 44 Magnum Bullets

I went to Federal Ammunition website and pulled up some data on the 44 Magnum and I am confused and need help understandsing something. The 240 grain, model C44A has different knockdown energies when shot from a handgun and a rifle. The bullet when shot from a handgun has 740 ft/lbs of energy at muzzle and 550ft/lbs at 100yds. When the same bullet is shot from a rifle it has 1,650 ft/lbs or energy at muzzle and 1,015ft/lbs of energy at 100yds. I also do not know why the muzzle velocities are so different 1080ft/s vs. 1760ft/s. I am shooting this bullet out of a lever action Winchester Model 94 and want the most knockdown at 100yds for deer, but, most data is not available using a rifle. I would appreciate any Help

To a point, the longer the barrel the greater the velocity. There is more time for the hot expanding gases behind the bullet to exret force on that bullet. You ever notice the "fire" that comes out the barrel when yoou shoot your handgun? That fire can no longer push the bullet once the bullet is out the short barrel.

Many loading manuals have the .44 mag. in the rifle section as well as the handgun section.

I understand the principle, but I am shocked at the dramatic differences in velocity and energy. There should be a point wher the gunpower peaks out. If this difference is this dramatic between these two guns than it must make a world of difference in my rifle if the barrel is 4" longer.
