Default Fixed myself up a "deer rig" What do y'all think?

T/C Encore Custom Shop heavy 26" .264 Winchester Magnum, with a thumbhole stock and a Leupold 4-12X40 scope, with Leupold rings and the weaver mount installed by the custom shop.

I have dies, brass, powder and bullets and I'm ready to play with er!

Really Nice! Why the .264 Win?

I use those cases to make 7.5x55 brass for the Swiss.

I have a .264 win mag that I have shot all sorts of big game with. Myn is a Win. model 70 bold action and wears a 3 to 9 X scope.

I also have a T/C Encore 209X50 muzzleloader and have been trying to deside what rifle barrel or barrels I might get for it. From what I hear the rifle barrels shoot very well. (as does the .50 cal. I have)

I would not call your rifle a "deer rig" particualrly. Unless all the deer hunting I did was out on the prairie or in the mountains. I may call it an "open country rig".

I did some of handloading of various bullet weights for my .264 but after awhile I just bought 140 gr. factory ammo and use it for everything from coyotes to moose.

It used to shoot 5 shot groups I could cover with a quarter and I called it "deadly dick". Now I think the operator is slipping a bit and it shoots two inch groups and I call it "meat in the pot".

Have a good one!

Nice rifle. I just hope it shoots better for you than my 7mm-08 encore did. After 2 returns back to T/C with no improvement, I traded it in at my local gunshop. It lasted 1 week there before someone actually stole it. It must have just been a 'bad luck' gun.

Nice gun!

I have had several "factory" barrels that did not meet my accuracy expectations, but my son's "custom shop" barrels in super accurate. I have a Virgin Valley 300 WSM barrel that is super accurate as well, but for the price, it should clean the game too.

Why the .264 Win?
My father-in-law introduced me to the 264, he has a Model 70 like Duffy. I waswith him one day inSouthern Colorado in the San Juans when he harvested a nice 5X5 bull at 585 yards with one very well placed double lung shot from his 264. From then on, I was impressed with the round.
And I knew, that a Custom Shop 26" 264 barrel would be a real performer.

And Duffy, you're right, as my father-in-law proved, it's way more than a deer gun, but my 300 Win mag is for the bigger stuff. I plan on working up a white tail load for the ole 264.

retrieverman, you're right for what ya got in one of these they should do something special!!

Cool story. That is some serious distance.
