Default RIG - and various gun care products

I would like to hear what people use to clean and maintain there rifles.

I hear about RIG and MP7.

I have always used the standard Hoppes gun oil.

I just bought a .270 Ruger and want to start "babying" it.

R.I.G. (Rust Inhibiting Grease) is a product for long-term storage of firearms, used a lot like the Cosmoline the military used to use for this purpose. However, unlike Cosmoline, R.I.G. stays soft, and consequently can be removed easily with just cleaning patches. It has been on the market for many decades, and, used according to directions, when applied to perfectly clean metal surfaces, will absolutely PREVENT rust and corrosion!! I use the stuff in bores and all other metal surfaces of guns that will not be used for over a year. For all guns that are used frequently, I use another product for rust prevention, such as Birchwood-Casey Sheath or Break-Free CLP. These are easier to apply, and don't leave big globs in the bore or on other parts, but do a good job preserving steel.

Keep yore powder dry!!

All I have used for many years is Hoppes 9 and wipe it down with a sheep skin saturated with RIG.For lubricating I've been using Rem Oil.

i have a ton of stuff. maybe sometimes more than i need.

for getting the copper out of my barrels i use that stuff that has a high % of ammonia in it but works great ( forget the name off the top of my head ).
birch&casey bore cleaner, hoppes#9, rem oil, silcone clothes, duri lube ( rem )
i have others but this is what i use most.

Like Quilly, I too have a collection of oils, greases etc. But my can of RIG is also a keepsake for me. It was given to me by its inventor, Russell Wiles, of Oregon, ILLinois in the late '40's. I use it sparingly, (a little goes a long way). Good thing he gave me an eight ounce can. And the previous post was right, it's a long term protector.
