Default Remington 597 and Boyds Stocks??

Have the kinks been worked out of this gun finally? They seem attractive, shoulder nicely, and I've heard good things regarding accuracy.

I've got one in 17HMR and haven't had any problems with it. Check out rimfirecentral.com They have a whole lot of info on the 597 plus every other rimfire out there. Heres mine......

Ihave one in all 3 calibers. 22lr 17 and 22 mag. they are all very accurate, and work flawlessly. Like most guns they need cleaned ocassionally and they will work well. They are 10 round mags in 22lr. and 8 rounders in .17 and .22 mag. In my 22lr I only put 8 in usually and there arent any troubles. Sometimes 10 will work but 8 works better. And in the mag calibers 5 or 6 rounds work the best.

Another question. Do the Boyds stocks for these guns fit the standard or only heavy barrel models? I am probably going to be building up one these one rifles for a friend to use as she is home recovering from surgery.

I have one in 22LR. Just the standard model with a plastic stock. It shoots very nice, and after I figured out not to overtighten the rail screws, does not jam anymore.

It is a royal pain to dissamble IMO. I haven't found a good way to get the springs on the rails in one try. It can take me as long as an hour and dozens of attempts to get it assembled.
