Default Accuracy Questions

I have a single shot 223 that i cannot get to hold a group and cant figure out why. It has had 6 different scopes on it and 5 different stes of mounts so ive ruled them out. When it is cold i can get 2 shots to group and as soon as it starts to get warm the groups scatter to about 15in at 100 yards. Dose anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it?

How many different types of amo have you tried? Some amunition is more accurate than others. This also found to be true with hand gun amunition. Also inspect your amo, make sure the bullets are seated properly into the cartridge. Have you checked the receiver, rifling, etc? Are you jerking the trigger instead of squeezing it? What are the conditions when you are shooting?

I dont remember how many different types of ammo but i currently have 16 half boxes from trying different brands, bullet types, andweights. I knwo im not jerking the trigger. I shoot every weekend and do very well with all of my other rifles. I try to take my 223 out atleast once a month and mess with it to get it shooting ok. Ive took it completely apart and put it back together atleast 2 times and everything looks fine. I jsut cant figure thisone out. I sent it back and they looked it over and said everything is good on it.

Sounds like either the barrel wasn't stress relieved properly or you have excessive lockup/hingepin tolerance to me. Can't say for sure without shooting it tho.

You can tell if it's stress relief caused by spacing shots 10 minutes apart. Hingepin is a bit more tricky. That may also affect headspace. Let your local smith check it out.

I can do 10 shots in a 15in circle with any ammo you give me. LOL. I think im just gonna junk this gun and buy a better one if i ever get it shooting right. I got it as a beater for the truck up the mountains and now i just wanna get it shooting right.
