Default Opinion's on the Beretta 9000 9mm

A LEO friend of mine is selling me his beretta 9000 9mm for 250.00 and this would be a really good pocket pistol. He's put about 100 rounds thru it and it was his back up weapon and off duty weapon. I am getting it because I cannot put my .45 long colt revolver in my pants pocket without my pants wanting to fall down. I am mainly getting it for home defense. I am not a LEO, but a teacher. I served 10 years in the Marines and army and know my way around pistols...just not this one.

Anyone know about the 9mm? I only wish this was the .40 cal. Oh well...shot placement!!

Well, you can't beat the price! But, if you want it for home defense, do you have to be able to carry it in your pocket at home? A shotgun loaded with birdshot so it won't disturbe the neighbors is a better HOME DEFENSE arm, as I'm sure you know! But for $250.00, it'll make a good plinker, if nothing else. Based on what just happened at VA Tech., I'd say we need MORE TEACHERS carrying guns at work!

I have the shotgun loaded with squirrel/rabbit rounds. I just want to be better prepared...I figure for the MONEY that I should/will grab it. I would like to know the best round...I don't believe in buying cheap rounds (other to plink with) for personal protection/home security.

My wife loves her 9mm. And if loaded with quality JHP's, would get the job done very well. I would strongly reccomend using Speer Gold Dot's in it. Very impressive expansion, good penetration, and the HP isn't proned to "clogging" when going through clothing.

As for the Beretta, they make quality products. Just make sure it runs fine with whatever you decide to fill the mags with.
