Default Mosin Nagant rifles for around 75 bucks?

I was thumbing through a Shotgun News tonight and noticed that some of these WWII era rifles are dirt cheap. Do any of you guys know if they'd be worth a crap? I thought heck, even if it's not accurate at all, for 75 bucks it'd make a nice piece of "art" hanging about the couch...

These are actually pretty decent rifles. Reasonably accurate in good condition, powerful (their 7.62x54R round is about equal to .308), and ammo is plentiful in bulk surplus. Check this out.

If you are expecting what you should expect from a $75 rifle- that they go bang when you pull the trigger, you won't be disappointed. Most of the 'rearsenalled' mosin nagants in the country right now have dark pitted bores of varying dimensions and but have a fresh stock or new laquer finish to them. Some willshoot respectably, most of them will make functional noisemakers. I have about a dozen mosins in various forms, only one of the bunch ever goes to the range with me, the rest just don't shoot well.

I have had good luck with the ones I have. My wife used my M44 to take a Ram in Texas from 180 yards, one shot one kill. I purchased a 91-30 to replace my M44 (wife claimed it for future hog hunting). I am having trouble posting a pic, I will do so as soon as I figure out how to.

Well they are surplus rifles and they probablyhave hador could have seen extreme use. I have seen aFinnish capture M91 punch a hole throughthe center oftarget at 100 yards. I have owned two M44's andtwo 91/30'sand couldn't hit a group wortha nickel. I still have the Finn capture. You'll just have to have a go at it. That's the fun part. If you don't like it you can always sell or trade it.

I shot one a guy had at the range last year, I think he said it was Finnish Civil Guard. The trigger was awful, but consistently so. I managed a 3" group at 50 with the open sights and the cheapo corrosive Russian surplus ammo.

The Finn rifles are in a completely different league thant he russian rifles. Most of them started off as russin rifles, but were rebuilt by some of the finest gunsmiths on the planet at the time.

I have an M44 and love it. I got the gun, ammo pouch and 60rds for $115. It's a fun little gun.

The Finnish ones marked SKY are actually SAKO barrels! And the acceptance accurracy was 3 shots in 1.3" at 100 meters or they were scrapped.SIG also made barrels for them as well..............Harold *Also many of the Finn ones are .308 bore not .310 or larger
