Default Which is the best 20th Century sub-machine gun?

Hey, which is the best sub-machine gun made in the 20th Century? If you have any others to add to the list, please let me know, since this seems to be a rather small list.

I do know the ***s made some sub-machine guns, but I don't know the names.

Have fun!

Yep. Add the MP5 to the list. You might also add whatever the M16 variant is that is chambered in 9mm. Is that the M4?. Also, take the SAW off. It's not a sub machine gun.

U mean the M3 Grease gun. The M60 is a belt fed7.62x51mm machine gun. And the saw is a 5.56mm belt or magazine fed machine gun. Anyway i voted for the Thompson. One of the first greatly successful sub guns. Rugged and reliable.

ISPC,
I could be wrong but i think that any variant of an M16 would still be considered an Assault Rifle.

I think when you're talking about the short barrelled, collapsible stock version, chambered for a pistol cartridge, that it qualifies as a submachine gun.

I could be wrong but i have one in .223 with a collapsable stock and a 14in barrel with flash supressor and its still an assault rifle. I just thought cause its on an M16 frame its still and assault rifle.

The "Grease Gun" is the M3 & M3A1 .45 ACP, which was a supplement to the Thompson .45 ACP during WWII. The M3A1 is still in use today by the US Army. Our unit currenly has 4 in our weapons vault. The M607.62mm Nato is a machine gun. Itwas not a sub-machine gun. Also the 5.56mm Nato M249 SAW is not a sub-machine gun either.

I also would add the H&K MP-5, the MAC-10, and the Soviet Reising.

As for you poll, I vote the Uzi.

I think you're right that it's still an assault rifle when chambered in .223. But, I think that once you chamber it for a pistol cartridge like the 9mm that it qualifies as a submachine gun.
