What can I expect from 1960's production rounds like these? I never thought about it, but does ammo have a shelf life? I remember finding some old 12 ga. shells in my grandpa's cellar that shot fine, but I don't know exactly how old they were.

That ammo is as good as any M2 ball stuff made in USA! There is NO shelf life on smokeless powder ammo. Some will last virtually forever in proper storage. Some military stuff made in wartime has been known to contain cer5tain lots of powder that eventually deteriorated, usually because it was made too fast and the solvents were not completely removed form the powder. However, the military has an inspection program that usually finds the bad stuff and destroys it before it is inadvertently used.
I have personally fired (perfectly good!) 45 ACP ball ammo with the headstamp FA 18 - Frankford Arsenal, made in 1918! WWI ammo!
