Do your homework and talk to some people, both hunters and gun dealers. There are a few favorites for someone in your position. One of the best for someone like you, IMHO,is the Remington 870 Express, either 12 gauge (recommended) or 20 gauge. Get one with a screw-in RemChoke so you can adapt to whatever game you're facing. You can use a Improved Cylinder with rifled slugs for deer, out to 50 yards on average, 100 if you're a good shot. Later on, you canput in a good turkey choke and pattern out to 40 yards when springtime comes around.

Good luck to you, and happy hunting!

Remmy, Mossy ,Beneli,Frachi,All make a good pump shotgun. People are going to tell you what they think is the best for you. Most of them will say Remmy or Mossy. They are all good guns. Find a price range. Talk to a dealer and figure out what features you want. Make your decision on what works best for you. NOT what someone else thinks you should shoot[because that is what they shoot].If you ask a Ford man what kind of truck you should drive he is not going to say Toyota.

If you live in a state that has a deer rifle season, you might consider one the single shots with interchangable barrels. Thompson Center, New England Firearms(NEF), or CVA all make these combos and extra barrels can be added later, as funds permit.
