Model 92 Lever Action .454 Casull!!

I noticed in the New Products section of this month's RIFLE Magazine there's a brief writeup of the Legacy/Rossi Model 92 rifle in .454 Casull. Not too long ago, on some discussion board, one of the "contributors" stated that this gun was very dangerous, the M92 action was too weak for the .454, and that these guns would "blow up"!! At the time, I found this assertion incredible, since the .454 Casull was chambered in some converted original M 92 Winchesters as early as the late 1950's (per Ackley). Additionally, I found it hard to believe that anyone would market a gun in this country that was going to blow up, in view of the activities of the Trial Lawyers!!! According to RIFLE, this gun was thoroughly tested by H.P. White Labs, and "came through with flying colors". About what I had expected!! Now to figure out where to get the cash for one.....

I agree eldeguello. Maybe some of the early Winchester made M-92's if converted, may have a slight chance of some kind of failure if converted to the 454 Casull. The metallurgy and the hardening of the steels used in firearms today are much better, precise, and stronger, than those made 50-100 years ago. I am sure that Legacy/Rossi did extensive pressure testing to absolutely sure that the pressures generated by the 454 Casull could be safely handled by their M-92 Puma. I would feel completely comfortable shooting a Legacy M-92 Puma, but I don't think I would feel comfortable at all shooting a converted 1920's circa Win. M-92.

i dont think that anyone would market a firearm that has the danger of blowing up with normal pressure rounds. it just doesnt make sense. i think if you dont believe it you are in denial
