Default .30 Carbine for short range deer hunting?

I was wondering if a .30 carbine is enough for deer if hunting in a wooded areawith maximum shot distances of 40 to 50 yards. Not brushy really. Just very wooded. (Remington 110 grn SP ammo)

at 40-50yds if you can put it where it needs to be it SHOULD work...but personally i wouldnt risk it. id borrow or buy a rifle before i tried...at the muzzle it only has about 950ft/lbs of energy. they recomend 800-1000ft/lbs minimum for deer. i just wouldnt risk it...though im sure place it right and itll work...but so will a 22 short. i wouldnt wanna try that either

That is the rifle my girl friend shoots. She can dot your I's off handed at 75 yards. It makes a great short distance woods rifle. I think she has killed around 10 deer with hers, we have not had a problem yet. But she knows how to use it. Tom.

There's not much room for error, but a friend of mine has killed a lot of deer with a 30 carbine.

In 1963 i gave my Dad a .30 caliber carbine. He killeda lot ofdeer with it before he quit hunting in 1996. He knew how to use the gun properly and never took a shot over 75 yards. The .30 carbine is nota proper deer rifle but it will work if used at close range. Use the 110 grain hollow points.

It is a poor choice, I have witnessed a deer being shot with one and it ran for miles. And that was at 30 yards When the deer was recovered the bullet only penatrated the ribs on one side and stoped short of any damage to bring it down. My hunting buddy finished it off with his 06. I would say it would be my last choice if at all.

yes it can work but why not use a .30-30 lever action? it's alot better choice for your named environment.

You asked the same question in the deer hunting forum. Did you not like the responses there and decide to try again here?LOL!!! In that case, I will tell you what you want to hear.

YES, it will work for a short range deer cartridge.

As long as you're using quality soft point ammo and stay within 100 yards (the same as you should for a 357 or 44 magnum pistol), it should work fine.
