Anybody use .264 win-mag and what do you think of them

I never owned one but I all ways wanted one. I asked a guy i know about them he said the were very hot and on the money.
I will buy one when I see one I like.

I bought one about 6 years ago when Remington came out with a special run BDL stainless with 26" barrel. I've shot one mulie with it and I watched it die in the scope. Looked like an invisible hand swatted that deer to the ground. Be warned that this cartridge is a handloader's proposition, because factory ammo is anemic. It's not difficult to run 140gr bullets @ 3300fps. If you can't already tell by the tone of my post, I have no intentions of ever selling this rifle.

Why bother when the 270 gives you the same performance with ammo more readily available.

Interesting caliber! Only problem I have seen is they are finicky about ammo!My loads shoot the 140 grain bullet but I can't change any one component without group going crazy,seating depth by 1 thousandth,primer brand,bullet brand,case brand,1/10 grain powder...anything!The Rem.7 mag was much easier to tame and work up loads.I love shooting the 264 but they are touchy critters!Heard something about dual diameter bullets.Factory loads may have the same inconsistancies with theml.

I bought one of these almost 40 years ago in a Model 70 Featherweight. It was light and had a short barrel. Fearsome bark. Wasn't until I got my first chronograph that I realized that, in this short of a barrel, it wan't any better than a .270. In a 26" tube, these are pretty good long range rifles for plains game. But the .270 WSM is at least as good and has a much better selection of bullets.

The .264 Winchester, while not quite obsolete, is not a very popular caliber. I would recommend either going down to a .257 Wby or up to a magnum class .270.

I was really hoping to hear alot better news from this round!! I kinda was thinking of building one.That round just intrest me, seems to be a handloaders dream. But what the heck I all ready have a 6.5X284

The 7mm Rem. Mag. was Remington's answer to the .264 Win. The .264 is nearly extinct, and the 7 Mag is still going strong. The .270 Win. will do nearly the same as either one, and is available almost anywhere, as is the 7 Mag.

Don't sell this round short. If you build one and install a 26 inch barrel, its a very good round. It possesses the same great bullet characteristics of the 6.5x55 with a lot more steam. Very good pronghorn, Mule deer and elk rifle. My boss had one many years ago and I used it some for deer hunting.
