Default Remington Model 770

Well I read on the Remington website that Remington came or will come out with the Model 770. It's supposed to be an upgrade to the 710. It mentions that the action will be smoother. The stock is black and has a new design to it. Same barrel and action as 710 so I assume it will be another POS.

I can't but help remembering another 1 of remington's so called "economy"rifles. It was the model 788 and actually proved to be remington's embarassment to itself when it consistantly outshot(more accurate)the classier model 700. It seems to me that bean counters are running the show at remington sometimes.

I have a 710 i got as a rifle to get a year or two of use out of whyle saving for a better gun that has lasted me years of abuse and out shoots most rifles i come across. I can keep .5 to .75 in groups at 100 yards. Its very picky on ammo though.

some people like the 710. Personally I don't like the stock. But heck, it seems to be a good enough rifle. Everyone I've seen that bought one liked it. They would probably have more experience with the rifle than those of us who don't own one and haven't really had a chance to shoot it or handle it in the field. I'm sure the same holds true with the 770.

The 788 had quite a few problems though including bolt handles that didn't want to stay on, and a springy rear lugged action. Neither was much of a problem if you shot factory ammo, but if you reloaded and tried loading cartridges hot, you ended up with a lot of case stretching and sticky extraction which caused the bolt handle to break off. Still, they were very accurate rifles (my first deer rifle was a 788 in .243) and I'd rather have one of them than the current 'bic lighter' versions of economy rifles that remington is putting out today.

I have a 710. It's fine. Not the best, just fine.

I looked at the 770 in the store the other day, and wow. I thought the worst thing about the 710 was the stock. Well, they out done themselves this time! The 770's stock is just plain rediculous. I can't believe anyone over the age of 9 would like it. It looks like a toy ray gun! I'm not kidding. I don't care if you have no intention of ever even borrowing one, you owe it to yourself for laughters sake to run to a gun shop and play with one. It's like Remington is trying not to sell any! It's getting harder and harder to defend them.

It seems that Remington will never stop trying to exceed themselves in building a piece of crap that makes people gag! The 710 and 770 are just the latest in this series! Those with gut-hook front sights and glued-on plastic vent ribs also qualify. And when they do come up with something that people really like, and start buying in quantity, such as the 788 or the 660-series, they drop them!

The beancounters may indeed be in charge at Remington. But it seems to me that the Remington bean-counters are not much good at counting!
