Default Couple of recent rifle projects...

I recently finished up some rifle projects. I still need to send the barreled actions for Teflon coating, or something similar. Will probably have a bunch of questions about the various coatings/processes before I make a decision. In the meantime, I am open for suggestions.

Here is the newest of the pair, my .280 Ackley Improved.
Details:
Trued Remington 700 action and bolt face, lapped locking lugs
Fluted Hart Stainless barrel, #4 contour, finished at 25-1/2"
Bedded McMillan "Remington Sporter" stock
Williams 1-pc steel bottom metal
Leupold 3.5-10x B&C scope in Talley LW mounts
Tuned factory trigger, set to 3lbs.

Here is my first custom, my .338-06. I recently upgraded the optics and stock.
Details:
Remington 700 Action
Cryo-treated Krieger barrel, #4 contour, finished at 25"
Bedded McMillan "Remington Sporter" stock
Older production factory bottom metal (aluminum)
Leupold 2.5-8x in Talley LW mounts
Tuned factory trigger, set to 3lbs.
Final weight is 8lbs - 3ozs

Very nice rifles you have their. I think that 280AI would look great with NP3. It is a wonderful finish that is very tough. Good luck.

There isn't too much, in the world of big game hunting, you couldn't handle with these two rifles. You might consider contacting Black Ice Coatings in Payson Utah. They have an extremely durable and attractive Teflon derivative process. Lee@blackicecoatings.com.

I have used Robar's Roguard coating in the past with great results, but it is very pricey. NP3 is great for internal parts, but it is very slippery and has kind of a drab pewter look to it. Also very pricey.

First, I think that you will love the 280 AI. I have yet to hear something bad about it's performance. As far as a coating goes, may I recommend one of Walter Birdsong's finishes? Although they are pricey, I have no doubt that you will be dissapointed ever. Let me know if you are interested.
