Default Opinions on Remington 700 LVSF in .22-250

Well I was looking for anice gun to shoot a few coyotes with... and found a great deal on a Remington 700 Light Varmint in .22-250... for $550 new.

Never owned a rifle before.. other than .22s.. What do you guys think about this rifle.. and what will I "need" to do to it to get it to shoot it's best without spending a fortune.

Sounds like a great deal on that LVSF. I usually see them for over $800, new. I sold my heavy barrel, and I plan to replace it with a Light Varmint model.

As far as I know, they are good shooters and as good as any other Remington 700. I doubt you will have to do much tinkering to get it to shoot well. It should be pretty accurate, right out of the box.

Enjoy!

Yeah I was looking at the heavy barrels at first also.. But one of my 10/22s is the target model that has the heavy hammer forged barrel.. and I've taken it squirrel hunting a few times.. and youcould really feel the weight at the end of the day.

Saw this LVSF on the rack the other day and couldn't pass it up... Can't wait to get out an see what it'll do.

Should I have to "break in" this rifle? I've been doing some searching and the opinions seem to vary wildly..

What scared me in the 22-250 was the short barrel, I do want one in 223 though.

Most Remingtons shoot well, but their triggers are set too heavy from the factory. I wouldn't let that keep me from getting the gun, but I'd plan on getting a trigger job done. Not tough to do yourself, or you can get a gunsmith to do it. And make sure to top it with a good scope.

You'll appreciate the light weight. Coyote hunting requires a lot of walking.

Usually the Remingtons in varmint have excelent triggers, my .243 VLS has a 2 1/2lb trigger pull that breaks cleanly. Its actually scary easy.

I have one chambered in 223 Rem.The LVSFmakes a nice walking/carry varminter. I mounted a Leupold 12X fixed atop and bought some of the cheap re-manufactured ammo, sighted it in and was quite pleased with the way it shoots. I havent messed withworking withthe trigger or working up any loads for it yet. Here are the first few shots out of the barrel and I am sure I can shrink those with some handloads and a Jewell trigger.

I have one from back when they made them in 7mm-08. What a sweet little gun. Lots of the perks of a heavy barreled varmint gun, without all the weight. Mine isa shooter as well. Have one group out of it under .4" at 100 yards, with factory ammo! Not bad for a country boy!

You'll enjoy that one immensely!
