Just gotta plug the old work horse. All the talk about the latest short mags.,ultra mags., and all the other new shoulder rockets sometimes makes me wonder if my old 06 is still deer medicine. I can honestly say yep the old 06 can still get the job done. In Rem. 700 with 150 gr. corelock I got venison in the freezer, an 8 pt. dressed 140 lbs. Cann't get much better that that. ;^).
The '06 has killed more deer than any other caliber in history. It surpased the 30-30 a few years back. And the model 700 probably got most of them. I'm selling my winchester mod 70 to get a rem.
And here I've been kicking myself for 40 years for buying a Remington when for only $30.00 more I could have had a pre-'64 Model 70 Winchester. In all honesty I would like to see any data that can be shown to be accurate that shows how many deer a cartridge has killed.We are talking about a hundred years or more of hunting and a whole continent of hunters.
