Default Winchester Model 670: To Buy Or Not?

Local shop has a Win. Mod. 670 (I think that is right) in the used rack for $249. It has a matte barrel, action, and a black painted stock with just a few scratches on it.

What year did Winchester quit making this rifle? Was a good action? Does anybody have any experience on the gun?

It was a .30 06 but I would have it rebarreled to .25 06 if I got it. I know it was a push feed but if the price is good, I can live with it.

Just looking for a few thoughts on the gun and if $249 sounds good.
Thanks

Default RE: Winchester Model 670: To Buy Or Not?

The Winchester 670 was an economy grade rifle that had a good reputation for accuracy (sort of like Remington's 788). The price sounds good, except for the painted stock (?). I would check the gun guides and if the price is correct for one in top condition, I would want some money knocked off for the stock. I also don't think the matte finish is correct for that old a rifle. If it has been extensively refinished, that means no collector value in the future.

If you want it purely as a shooter, then go for it, but you say you would rebarrel it? Add the cost of rebarreling and you could buy a more expensive rifle that is already in .25-06...

The Winchester Model 670 is a Model 70 push feed.It was their "economy" Model 70 before the "Ranger" models.I had two of them in 30-06 and 243.Have seen them in 270 also.
