Default Kimber 8400 Montana ???

Alright I posted about getting rid of my Steyr a few days ago...........think I am going to do it !!

What do you guys think of the Kimber 8400 Montana ?

I am currently leaning toward the .7mm WSM ........but I know nothing about them ? Would that kick a lot...........would the .270 WSM have much less recoil ?

I am just wanting a real accurate deer rifle that will kill effectively up to 300 yards !! I could probably just get a .270 but the short mag's seem like a good alternative and may come in handy if I ever elk hunt or something with a gun !!

Sorry if you guys get a lot of these posts............I have hard core bow hunted for 9 years and just getting back around to a rifle !! I can't seem to get any searches to come up on the forum for some reason ...so I am posting to find out!!

Thanks for any help !!

I handled a new one a few weeks ago in 308. The feelof the rifle was unbelievable. They really make a winner. I did not shoot it, but I have shot many Kimber's. Buy one, I do not believe you will be sorry. This dealer got his in by accident, a customer ordered a different caliber, and the rifle came in the wrong caliber. If you want a 308, I think he may let it go for a good price. Tom.

Are these guns worth the extra cash over say a Browning A-bolt , Steyr Pro Hunter , or a Rem 700 ???

Kimbers are great rifles. The Montana is quite light so that in the "banger" calibers it may have a fairly stiff recoil... if that at all bothers you. With that being said, I have a Classic in .308 that isn't half bad. Highly recommended.

I think the Montana is feels good, looks good, made with high quality but based on observations from 24hourcampfire.com where a lot of guys actually own them or did own them I am not so sure about the QC process. It would be worth your while to check out the thread link bellow. While I do thing there are going to be lemons, should there be this many from a gun that costs that much.

I think people expect a light hunting rifle to perform just like a heavy Varmint rifle. It is not possible. You give up certain things when you go to an ultra light rifle. I have also found that people who think they are spending alot more, like to complain alot more. One last thing, if you get a good price on the Kimber, it is really not much more than a nice 700 Remington. You can get a Montana for around $900. How much is a nice Remington or Model 70? Tom.

Go with the Montana, I love the kimbers and have several. Although I'm having a few issues with my 338 right now I guess nobody is perfect..

But I would choose something like 30.06 if you want to shoot deer and maybe elk in the future with same gun. Short mags are not doing so hot.

I would check into the sale of ammo for the 7 mm WSM around your area unless you reload. This round isn"™t doing so good from what I"™ve heard. They had an issue with design and held back while the 270 WSM was well on it"™s way. I"™ve handled the Kimber Montana and find it"™s one I wouldn"™t mind getting. Sales are doing well in our area. I have a 270 WSM in another rifle and find it to be a great round with reasonable recoil but I don"™t know how it would be in a lighter rifle. Good luck...

I work for a gun store and I can tell you first hand that the wsm and wssm calibers are not selling.. We are stuck with some model 70's and a few Kimbers that we have marked down to cost and some below just to get rid of them and they won't sell.
The ammo cost more, the balistics are only slightly better and the ammo is harder to find. Lots of people are scared to buy one thinking they won't make it. Lots of new cartridges come and go, I like new cartridges.. But sad truth is most fizzle out.. People keep coming back to the classic rounds cuz there is nothing wrong with them in the first place.

I'm just stating what I'm seeing and hearing at the gun store I work for. I think out of them all the 300wsm might make it but that would be the only one IMO.. Maybe it is different in other places than here, who knows.
