Default Winshester Ammo

has anyone had any experiance with the winchester super x ammo? in particular the cxp2 silvertips, i was considering shooting the 130 gr out of my 270. What results have you had?expansion?knock down? lets hear some feedback before i go shooting tomm. I am going to try the 150gr fusions and the 130gr silvertips.

Biggest deer I have ever killed (whitetail) still to this day I shot with a 150gr power-point out of a '06. Looked like I hit him with a cruise missle. Had to sack both front shoulders. Great bullet, killed him like lightnig, but Lord I won't shoot those bullets anymore, just like the Nosler Ballistic tips. Great bullets at distance, but at higher velocities, like you will be experiencing with your .270 (and even more so inside 100 yards) you might have some bullet blow up issues. I have had the best success with power points (and those non-bonded ballistic tips) at velocities below 2800fps (muzzle).

I'd lean in the direction of the fusions. Those super-x bullets are good, but Lord they do some damage!

I have to agree with Swamp, the Power Points will tear up some jack at higher velocites. But, in general they are good hunting bullets.

Most definately. A classic offering, right in line with Sierra Gamekings. Been killing deer for years as dead as you can get them. They do expand reliably. And I haven't seen too many guns that don't shoot Gamekings well. Powerpoints usually shoot well in most guns too.

Good luck.

I shot that bullet this year and they work well. My duaghter shot her doe at about 20 yards away right through the ribs and the thing dropped like a box of rocks. The exit hole was about the size of a softball lol. At that close though it wouldnt have mattered which bullet would have hit that deer (with the exception of maybe a fmj bullet) it would have made a pretty good sized exit wound. Heck, a 22 hollow point would have taken that deer down at that range lol. Anyways, that and the Core Lokts will work well in just about all rifles.

I've used Winchester Premimum CXP3 with both "failsafe" and most recently Nosler "Accubond" slugs 180 gr Elk hunting to take my last 3 Elk. It seemed with well placed definetely to do the job. They seem to be consistently on with my Tikka T3 .300 WM. This falls Elk I shot at 299 yds. through the front broke the leg bone 6" below the should and it took out both the cow's hungs. She dropped in 30 or so yards dead. I plan to keep using these cartriges with the Accubonds in the future.
