.22 calibers legal for night hunting

The laws for my state say that to hunt after dark you have to have a rifle cartridge no larger than .22 caliber or #6 shot if you're using a shotgun.

So since it doesn't specify .22 lr what all calibers are listed as .22?

Likely they mean .22 rimefire. I am really surprised thay don't specify that. What is the exact wording in the regulation?

ah, i went back and read it and it has to be a rimfire cartridge. reading the law in two different places gives two different stories apparently.

same nightime rimfire law here in WV. Only difference is that the shotgun needs to use #4 or smaller

Man, I wish that I could hunt at night. I take it that you are hunting possibly hogs and small game? Coon maybe?

a .22 lr is perfect for most other small game.

I see. I dont even think that we can hunt even those pains in the arse here at night. It would be fun though. Heck I have them come right up into my freaking yard on regular occasion. Especially when I have chickens.[>:]

I would think that if they were harming your livestock you could take them at any point.

Heck, even here I think you can shoot deer out of season if they are seriously damaging your crop.

And a lot of times here it seems that the laws might be relaxed a little on private land. The same might be for your state. Read the laws carefully and look for loop holes and when you have a doubt, ask somebody knowledgable of the law.
