Default you know what, i'm just gonna ask it.

Say for instance we're talking about a 130 gr .270 cartridge.

Does that gr stand for "grams" as in the weight of the bullet itself or "grains" as in how much powder is in there.

I can't believe I've gone all this time not really knowing the real meaning of that...

It stands for grains, for the weight of the bullet.

Ok, that's where I was getting confused. When I would hear "grains" I was thinking grains of powder but then everytime it's mentioned it's about bullet weight. Glad to finally know for sure. Thanks man.

The Grain is a unit of weight and equals 64.799 milligrams.

A 130 grain bullet weighs 8.4238583 grams.

It's a unit of weight regardless of whether you are talking about gunpowder or bullets.

You know, I didnt know the difference either until I started reloading a couple of months ago. It never hurts to ask questions. When it comes to firearms its better to looks stupid and ask and learn than it is to not ask questions and look stupid once you have hurt yourself or others through lack of knowledge.

Donnie, I'm actually glad to see you asking questions, because, the more questions you ask, the more knowledgable you will become. I think TUK, hit it right on the head with what he said.

Yeah, much better to ask. I use 18.5 grains of 700X in my 12 ga. reloads. Scary to think what would happen if I tried loading them with 18.5 grams of powder (assuming that much would fit in a shotshell)...
